Kikokugai - The Cyber Slayer
A tale of revenge set in future Shanghai, where crime syndicates and cyber-warriors rule the city. The schools of martial arts can be largely divided into two styles - Waijia, the external schools that concentrate solely on the development of speed, strength, and powerful forms and techniques - and Neijia, those that use control of breathing and blood flow to master the internal energy - qi - that flows through the body's meridians. Because of these methodological differences, the two styles have vied time and again for supremacy.Although practitioners of Waijia were far greater in number, in the end not one of them could stand up to a warrior who had truly mastered the secrets of Neijia. For centuries, this was the unchallenged law of the martial arts world. However, the advent of cybernetics changed everything. Freed from the yoke of their physical limitations, Waijia schools discovered an entirely new world of possibility. The Neijia schools that had reigned over the martial world with their secret techniques, suddenly found themselves obsolete. In this age where technology is changing the face of combat, heirs to the ancient martial traditions have developed anti-cyborg techniques for the sole purpose of defeating cyborgs with one's bare hands - at great cost to the wielder. Kong Taoluo, one such master and former asssassin in the Qingyun Society, returns to Shanghai from a year in recovery after being betrayed by the syndicate and assumed dead. Discovering the horrible truth of what has happened to his sister during his absence; Taoluo swears an oath of vengeance and sets out to murder those responsible.
Kikokugai - The Cyber Slayer
"Kong Taoluo died in Macao. It is a demon that draws this blade now. A demon... of vengeance!"A master swordsman and Neijia practitioner; Kong Taoluo was once the top assassin in the Shanghai-based crime syndicate known as the "Qingyun Society." Renowned in the Chinese underworld as the "Lightning Palm," a moniker attributed to his Neijia based ability to channel internal energy and kill cyber-warriors with a single touch of his palm. He is one of the few unaugmented people left in the underworld; loathed by Waijia practitioners.Betrayed, cut down and assumed dead by his childhood friend, fellow Society member and former Neijia master, Liu Haojun; Taoluo spends a year in hiding, recovering from his near-fatal injuries. Upon returning to Shanghai, he discovers the horrible truth of what has happened to his sister, Kong Ruili. He swears an oath of vengeance and sets out to murder those responsible, and to recover Ruili's soul fragments.
"Come now, you make me sound like a villain."A master swordsman and former Neijia practitioner; Liu Haojun, known as the Demon-Eyed Adonis, was once Kong Taoluo's elder disciple and heir to the Neijia school of kung fu. Quickly rising through the ranks of the Qingyun Society, Haojun was forced to get cybernetic augmentations - effectively making him unable to channel internal energy, which Neijia is centered around. Taoluo's childhood friend and Ruili's husband; what caused him to cut down Taoluo and organize the gang rape, murder and experimental soul transfer of Ruili is unfathomable.
"Heh, I'm a baby compared to you cyber-warriors."Ng Wing Shing is a high-ranking member of the Qingyun Society, and Liu Haojun's right-hand man, acting as the president of Shanghai Cybernetics. Ng is a legendary hacker and programmer known as the "All-Consuming Poison" for the deadly cyber virus he developed in his youth, which is still roaming the net and evolving. One of the five responsible for Kong Ruili's rape and murder.
"Tonight you have 'til the count of 600. Got it?"Zhu Shaoyan is a high-ranking member of the Qingyun Society, and one of Liu Haojun's top lieutenants. She serves as the Society's enforcer; dealing with internal conflicts and meting out punishment. A Waijia master known as the "Demon Empress," wielding long claws and a cyber-whip. One of the five responsible for Kong Ruili's rape and murder.
In a future Shanghai, there are two types of Kung Fu masters, those who mastered their internal qi, and those who mastered their physical skills. The qi masters are able to output a stronger energy coming from their life itself, but it took a long time to master it. It was easier to just train their physical skills, but there was a limit to how strong a human body can be. So there were a balance of many average physical skill masters and few strong qi masters. However that balance broke when cybernetics came into play. Kung Fu masters would replace their body with robotic parts and attain a strength that a normal human can never achieve. That's how no one tried to become qi masters anymore when they can easily become powerful by using cybernetics, and qi masters decreased in numbers.
鬼哭街 (Kikokugai) by Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/zero) is a wuxia visual novel published by Nitroplus and translated by Makoto from JAST USA. It is a swooping story about a guy in a cyberpunk Shanghai beating up the leaders in a triad organization in order to get his sister, raped and her soul separated into different dolls, back. Even with such a crazy premise, you can see elements of wuxia going into play here.
The ending of 鬼哭街 shows this clearly well when everything is revealed. It puts him into a huge degree of suffering and all he can do is cry. Cry in the crying demon city of a cruel cyberpunk city of Shanghai.

Zhu is killed by Kong Taoluo after a protracted battle, in which Taoluo severs her arm, uses the built-in flail against her, binding her legs and finishing her off with using a specialized kung-fu technique with uses the body's natural bio-electricity to generate an EMP, destroying Zhu's cybernetic life support systems. Taoluo then copies the portion of Ruili's consciousness from Zhu's gynoid onto one he used.
